What is ovarian rejuvenation?

An innovative advance in reproductive medicine using Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) that improves the quantity of mature eggs that can be obtained in the subsequent treatment in cases of low ovarian reserve. This platelet concentrate is obtained in the laboratory from the patient’s blood, and is injected to stimulate tissue regeneration and repair.

When is it used?

Low ovarian reserve

Women diagnosed by antimullerian hormone (AMH) test and antral follicle count.

Difficulties with ovarian stimulation

Patients who do not respond adequately to ovarian stimulation processes.

Ovarian failure or hormonal imbalances

Especially up to 38 years of age.

Benefits of ovarian rejuvenation

It reduces the number of stimulation cycles required for ICSI treatment

Increases the effects of medication in women with low ovarian reserve levels

Increases the number of oocytes retrieved in one puncture

Improves implantation and pregnancy rates thanks to the higher number of eggs obtained

Treatments in which it is used

¿How is it done?

Blood is drawn and immediately processed in the laboratory to increase the regenerative factors present in the plasma and concentrate them, thus obtaining a Platelet Rich Plasma. Then, in the operating room, the intraovarian injection of this compound is performed. A very simple procedure performed under anaesthesia.

When are results obtained?

Results are evident within one to three months, at which point a classic treatment with ovarian stimulation (IVF-ICSI, Ropa Method) could be performed. Occasionally, repeating the technique may be necessary.

FAQs about ovarian rejuvenation

What is PRP ovarian rejuvenation?
Ovarian rejuvenation using Platelet Rich Plasma is a technique that uses plasma derived from the patient’s own blood to stimulate regeneration and improve the function of the ovaries, thus increasing the number of eggs obtained for assisted reproduction treatment.
How is the procedure carried out?
The procedure begins with the collection of a blood sample from the patient. This blood is centrifuged to obtain platelet-rich plasma. The PRP is then injected directly into the ovaries using a minimally invasive, ultrasound-guided technique.
For whom is ovarian rejuvenation indicated?
It may be indicated for women with low ovarian reserve, ovarian stimulation problems, ovarian failure or hormonal imbalances. It will always be the doctor’s judgement that assesses the convenience of carrying it out based on the probabilities of success in each particular case.
How much does ovarian rejuvenation cost?
At IGIN this technique costs €1,180.
How many sessions are required to see results?
The number of sessions may vary depending on each patient’s response. Generally, one or two PRP sessions are recommended, but the specific treatment plan is determined by the physician based on the assessment of each case.
Are there any risks or side effects associated with PRP?
It is a safe technique and side effects, if any, are usually minimal, such as possible discomfort at the injection site, mild pain or temporary swelling. Since PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood, the risk of adverse reactions is minimal.
