What is it?

It is the process of preserving the eggs or embryos obtained during an assisted reproduction process for use in subsequent cycles or in future treatments, if pregnancy has already been achieved. It is included in all treatments that require it.

Benefits of freezing eggs and embryos

It saves time, effort and cost because, if a first cycle is unsuccessful or if you wish to have more children in the future, you will not have to repeat the stimulation and retrieval process.

It allows you to make the most of a successful ovarian stimulation cycle and increase the chances of success, without having to start again.

It offers very high survival and development rates, which increases the guarantee of viability.

It facilitates family planning and spacing of pregnancies according to desires and circumstances, without the pressure of biological age.

Used in treatments with embryonic development

How does it work?

Through advanced cryopreservation techniques in a process called vitrification: an ultra-rapid freezing that avoids both the formation of ice crystals and any damage during the procedure. Eggs and embryos remain in an optimal state for years without compromising their quality and viability.

FAQs about freezing embryos or eggs

What technique is used to freeze eggs and embryos, and is it safe?
We use vitrification, an ultra-fast cryopreservation that freezes oocytes and embryos at extremely low temperatures without forming ice crystals, which prevents cell damage. Unlike traditional freezing, which can allow ice crystals to form, vitrification solidifies the cells in a glass-like state, which optimises viability after thawing.
For how long can eggs and embryos be kept frozen?
Oocytes and embryos can be stored indefinitely without significant loss of quality or viability. There is no set time limit, and successful pregnancies are achieved with embryos and eggs vitrified many years ago.
Does vitrification affect embryo quality or pregnancy success?
No, vitrification does not affect embryo quality or pregnancy success rates. In fact, vitrified embryos have implantation and development rates almost equal to those of fresh embryos, which makes this method very effective.
How much does egg or embryo freezing cost?
At IGIN it is a procedure that we include free of charge in every treatment, alongside 2 years of storage.
